2022/23 GMVL AGM, Fixtures meeting, and Trophies!

22/09/22 | GMVA

AGM Monday 03/10/22 7pm in Worsley, please see below all the details.

Evening all,

A number of you have been enquiring when the League commences. The difficulty in part is that the Universities and Colleges are not yet back. That said, it is great to see the enthusiasm from everyone to get started and we need to move on. It is also great to see growth in the league and we welcome a number of new entrants for the coming season.

There will therefore be an AGM and League fixtures meeting at Worsley Old Hall on Monday 3rd October at 7.00pm. Please note that all clubs that wish to enter the league are expected to send a representative. We welcome new blood on the committee and if anyone would like to join us, please let me know. The current committee is as follows:

Chair: Bryan Youlden

Fixtures Secretary: Lois Best

Treasurer; Bryan Youlden

Communications: Stefano Scrocco

Referees: Adam Gillibrand

Phil Chanin, Adrian Stores

An agenda is for the AGM below. It is great to see the interest for this coming season , and we are still debating what format is best suited for the number of teams wishing to enter. The following is my current understanding of who wishes to enter this year. The aim will be to try and aim for 14 fixtures per team over the course of the season.

We also had an approach from the Isle of Man, but understandably they can only play matches at weekends and in England which didn’t appear to be workable. Garstang are likely to play their matches in the Bolton area and Preston are proposing to use a venue in south Preston close to the M6/M61/M65 motorway junction. If anyone has issues with this, please raise these now.

If I have missed anyone, or I am incorrect, please let me know.

League entry fees for last season were £35 per team and I would hope that we could maintain this for the coming season. Please bring monies to the meeting or make a bank transfer.

In advance of the meeting, can you please let us know who the contact will be for organising and confirming fixtures for each team as follows?:

Name

Email address

Telephone number

Matches can commence immediately after the league meeting.

I also attach draft updated rules for the coming season. I would prefer not to waste too much time at the meeting on 3rd October, so if anyone has any objections to anything contained, can they please let me know pdq? The draft has already been circulated to the committee without comment. If there are no comments, I will assume that they are acceptable.

Questions have been asked about transgender players playing in the league. We welcome any player, but after consulting with Volleyball England, they have determined that any player playing in a VE accredited league (of which we are one) can only play in the league appropriate to their birth sex i.e. a person born as a male can only play in the men’s leagues and a person born as a woman can only play in the women’s leagues. If you want clarity on this, please look at the VE website and policy.

Finally, if I have missed anyone’s contact details, please pass this on or advise me.

I look forward to seeing you all on 3rd October.

Kind regards,

Bryan Youlden

Chair GMVA
